Printing pastes November 2 and 3

WORKSHOP Natural dyes in printing pastes for wool, silk, linen, cotton and hemp (or paper). Many shades, wash and light fast.

We will be working with 6 pastes based on natural dye extracts and aluminium salt. They mix very well into to a huge palet of colours. Madder, cochineal, genista(yellow), iron/tannic, indigo and discharge paste that enhances the colours on silk and wool but bleaches them on cellulose fibers. The first day we produce colour blankets on the 5 different fabrics. From there everyone will be able to make an archive.  After that you can make your own work, experimenting or making f.i. fabric for a cushion cover. The pastes can be used for printing or painting. Minimum 35 minutes of steam fixation are necessary to devellop the colour. Washing the textiles afterwards is the final treatment. The pastes combine very well with ecoprints or their blankets.

We work on wool, silk, organic cotton,linnen and hemp. The cellulose fibers have been prepared with soymilk.

You can bring your own preferred fabrics but they need to be very clean. And I recommend the soymilk treatment for better colour uptake and fastness. If you have enlisted I will explain you this simple method, so you can prepare them yourselves.We have however limited room for steaming and washing especially when we are in Atelier Fiberfusing so your own fabrics are meant only for sampling/research.

I will give you all the supliers information of the ingredients needed.These are : dyeplant extracts, guar gom, aluminium salt, urea, tannic acid, alum, citric acid, cream of tartar, ironsulfate and industrial fixatif for indigo paste.
